Gardens to Markets: Women’s Feeder Roads Initiative (G2M Vanuatu) is our concerted effort to change that. Building on the spirit of the UN “Markets for Change” programme, which has helped make market spaces safer and more inclusive for women vendors, this initiative shifts the focus upstream – from the market buildings to the overlooked routes that connect gardens, villages and market gates.
G2M Vanuatu works with women vendors, communities and local authorities to identify critical feeder routes, document the challenges and co-design practical improvements. The emphasis is on simple, durable, climate-resilient upgrades that make it easier and safer for women to move their produce, without placing additional pressure on fragile rivers, coastlines and ecosystems. Wherever possible, the initiative promotes locally appropriate and environmentally responsible solutions that reflect community knowledge and priorities.
