The project directly responds to one of the Pacific’s earliest cases of climate-induced displacement, where rising sea levels and salt-water intrusion have rendered the islands increasingly uninhabitable. It aims to create a new, climate-resilient homeland on 30 hectares of donated land in mainland Bougainville. This initiative will transform the challenge of relocation into an opportunity for renewal: constructing affordable, cyclone-resistant homes, establishing new livelihoods grounded in agro-forestry and eco-infrastructure, and honouring the Carteret heritage with community design that embraces both coastal roots and inland will-to-thrive. Together we will build a safe, dignified future for the Carteret families — a place where culture, community and climate resilience merge into hope.
