Project Highlight
Why we need a substitute for sand
The United Nations has ranked sand mining as one of the major sustainability challenges of the 21th Century. The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) highlighted the urgent need to find solutions towards curbing the overexploitation of our finite sand resources. It is estimated that the world consumes over 50 billion tonnes of sand each year, which is enough to “…build a wall 27 metres high and 27 metres wide around the Earth every year”.
